WHAT IS MYOTHERAPY?
Myotherapy can help improve the integrity of the soft tissue structures of your body (muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons), which is important in the prevention of injury and dysfunction. Your soft tissues can be damaged or irritated in accidents, sporting activities, by having incorrect posture, from over-use (repetitive activities) or under-use, disease, or by physical and emotional stress. This damage sometimes presents as a trigger point (lump or knot) in the muscle.
Correct treatment and maintenance of trigger points, helps to reduce pain, soreness, tightness, and restriction of movement and muscle tension. Myotherapy can also help you restore maximum mobility by correcting and rehabilitating injuries and preventing recurrence.

SYMPTOMS
When you feel pain, you may have the following symptoms:
Does this sound like you? HOW DOES MYOTHERAPY WORK? You are more than likely aware that your body is made up of soft tissue structure. One of the major reasons why we have muscle aches and pains is that we develop trigger points. According to Travell and Simons (1992) a trigger point is, "A hyper-irritable spot, usually within a taut band of skeletal muscles or in the muscle's fascia. The spot is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain, tenderness and autonomic behaviour." One of the roles of your Myotherapist is to locate these trigger points by using different tools and techniques. These trigger points tend to refer pain to another area of your body and is sometimes that cause of your problem/s. There are two main trigger points to be aware of: Active Trigger Points Active trigger points are the most common and what you'll usually first notice as a complaint. It is the pain you fell when you're resting that intensifies when the muscle is used. These trigger points often refer pain elsewhere, and cause numbness, tingling or burning to other areas of the body. Latent Trigger Points Most people dont even know they have a latent trigger point until their Myotherapist locates it for them! The longer you leave a latent trigger point, the more likely it is to become an active trigger point. They cause weakness and restriction of motion ad the can persist for years after a pre-exsisting problem / condition or an injury. If left untreated while the muscle is shortened (tight), overused or injured, it can develop into an active trigger point. Having regular Myotherapy treatment can prevent these latent trigger points from becoming active as your therapist will find them before they become a major problem. SO HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?
