Don't lose touch with that relaxed, fun, summer-holiday you!
Feeling good after a little time off?

Summer holidays can be a wonderfully refreshing time, especially after all that Christmas craziness is over with. We can finally get in some quality me-time, maybe lie on the beach, sleep in, eat well or not, even get a little sun.

Often after a holiday or a break from work, we feel a sense of relaxation and wellbeing that’s hard to find during the busier times of the year. We intend to hang on to it, to work less this year and relax more, but often those resolutions begin to slip away as we refocus on our busy lives, and stress begins to creep back in. Sound familiar?

Well, not this year! Hang on to your hard-earned feelings of wellbeing and wellness by making self-care a part of your routine. Keep that stress-related pain and tension at bay! We think regular massage and myotherapy treatments, far from being a luxury, are absolutely essential ways to stay connected to your body, your health, and your best self throughout the year. Not just when you’re on holidays.

Are you a bit confused by the different terms, and unsure of whether Myotherapy, Remedial Massage, or Relaxation Massage is the best option for you this year? We break down the differences below!

What is the difference between Remedial Massage, Relaxation Massage and Myotherapy?

When booking in for Massage or Myotherapy, many clients are unsure of the differences between the various services we offer. In this post I will give a quick rundown of our services and link you the landing page for each one on our website, where the differences are described in much greater depth. That way, you’ll know what’s best for you before you book in!

Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a clinical and hands-on treatment approach to soft tissue therapy dysfunction or damage. The technique uses gentle massages of the muscle tissue and because it works deeper than a regular relaxing massage, the effects are usually deeper and longer lasting.

Remedial massage is used to prevent as well as heal injuries but ideally remedial massage therapy is used as a preventative form of treatment that works by removing pain and dysfunction, relieving stress and creating balance in the body, generally promoting a sense of deep relaxation and well-being. However, if you have an injury remedial massage therapy is extremely beneficial as it helps in treating a wide variety of muscle and skeletal conditions such as back, neck and shoulder pain, muscle sprains, repetitive strain injuries, whiplash, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tension type headaches and migraines.

Relaxation Massage

A relaxation massage is a whole-body hands-on treatment that uses pressure, with long smooth gliding strokes, kneading and rubbing to help you relax. It helps de-stress and loosen up your body and is great for those who have had a hard working week or feel like treating themselves to some TLC! Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle style of massage designed to improve circulation, encourage overall relaxation, improve range of movement, relieve minor muscle pain, increase energy levels and improve overall physical and mental performance.  It's a good choice if you’re getting your first massage of if you just want to bring your stress level down.  This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled.

Myotherapy

Myotherapy can help improve the integrity of the soft tissue structures of your body (muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons), which is important in the prevention of injury and dysfunction. Your soft tissues can be damaged or irritated in accidents, sporting activities, by having incorrect posture, from over-use (repetitive activities) or under-use, disease, or by physical and emotional stress. This damage sometimes presents as a trigger point (lump or knot) in the muscle.

Correct treatment and maintenance of trigger points, helps to reduce pain, soreness, tightness, and restriction of movement and muscle tension. Myotherapy can also help you restore maximum mobility by correcting and rehabilitating injuries and preventing recurrence. Myotherapists use techniques such as soft-tissue manipulation, trigger-point therapy, stretching, myofascial cupping, dry needling, corrective exercises, and the application of heat and cold to areas of the body.

Don't let yourself get swept up in all of the stress and tension and pain you forgot about in your summer break! Keep taking care of yourself this year and make 2018 your best year of health yet!
